ActiveWorlds - Web virtual reality
3ds max - Discreet's modeling, animation, and rendering solution used to create visual effects, games, and design visualizations.
AMIRA - AMIRA is a turnkey viewer for 3D datasets. It is sold by the same people who make OpenInventor. It has associated tools for using it on the CAVE, which we haven't tested.
DeltaGraph - Commercial software by Red Rock. DeltaGraph 5.0 is a powerful data collection, analysis and presentation tool available for both Macintosh and Windows operating systems. It combines data with customizable mathematical formulas to help you create visual charts and graphs.
Ensight - This is a turnkey viewer of 3D datasets. It says it has a VR component and outputs VRML, which would display in the CAVE at CTC.
FakeSpace - the leader in the development and deployment of interactive, advanced visualization solutions
Flow Analysis Toolkit (FAST) - FAST is a software environment for analyzing data from numerical simulations. This package can be used to visualize any scalar and vector data that can be mapped to a Plot3d or Unstructured grid.
GNUPlot - Gnuplot is a very quick scriptable plotter with a command-line interface. It's a fine workhorse that is easy to connect to from external programs, but the resulting graphs are not print-quality. It does 2D and 3D graphs.
GR/ACE (formerly XMGR) - Free software. The interface to this program is a little confounding at first, but its 2D plots are print-quality, so everyone uses it. Under Windows, it runs only through X-Windows, so you would need Exceed or some such to run them.
Hummingbird LTD Exceed Server 6.2 - powerful X connectivity software
IGOR Pro - Commercial software by WaveMetrics. IGOR Pro is an interactive environment for experimentation with scientific and engineering data and for the production of publication-quality graphs and page layouts.
Maple - Maple began as just a language for symbolic math with a purist syntax that made it a favorite of theorists. The interface has greatly expanded, as have its numerical and symbolic capabilities.
Mathematica - The strength of Mathematica is its underlying language, which is similar to LISP. It is a complete programming language with powerful idioms. There are a ton of packages for Mathematica, many of them free. It also has strong communication capabilities, so you can link to it directly from your own programs.
Matlab - Matlab is a more visual environment with strong connectivity to user programs in C, C++, Java, and Fortran. There are lots of packages for this that you just have to sift through yourself.
Modviz - manufactures software products that enable scalable, high-performance, real-time 3D visualization on PC-clusters
OpenDX - free, opensource, full-featured software package for the visualization of scientific, engineering and analytical data.
Origin - Commerical software by MicroCAL. Provides extensive scientific graphing and analysis capabilities with several new tools that simplify common operations.
SigmaPlot - Commerical software by SPSS. Easy to use technical graphical software with easy MS Office integration.
TecPlot - Tecplot is plotting software with extensive 2- and 3-D capabilities for visualizing technical data from analyses, simulations and experiments. Tecplot combines general engineering plotting with high-end 3-D scientific data visualization.
VRCO - software that enables the integration of massive quantities of data from disparate data sets into i3D visual representations.
VTK - The Visualization ToolKit (VTK) is an open source, freely available software system for 3D computer graphics, image processing, and visualization used by thousands of researchers and developers around the world.
