Configuration of the hardware counters is done using a GUI tool called CPUMon. It is freely available from sysinternals. It works with P3 processors, but not P4 or Itanium. Only users with administrative privileges on a particular machine can use it there.

CPUMon makes data from the hardware counters available as objects in the CPUMon class. Thus, they can be viewed in Perfmon or accessd using the WMI interface while CPUMon is running.

This table lists all of the quantities that can be measured by the hardware counters. All items except those in the FPU class can be measured by either counter.
