This section contains several "field trips" that have been described on the web. Several people have chronicled their adventures and travels; these links will let you travel along with them, read their journals, see their photos, and enjoy their insights.
 
The Explorers Club - The Explorers Club is an international multidisciplinary, professional society dedicated to the advancement of field research and scientific exploration, and the ideal that it is vital to preserve the instinct to explore. This organization offers a number of student research grants and public programs and provides a number of scholarships each year to winners of the International Science and Engineering Fair.
JASON Project - Dr. Robert D. Ballard founded the JASON Project in 1989, after receiving thousands of letters from children wanting to know how he discovered the RMS Titanic. Each year, a scientific research expedition is mounted in a remote part of the world and broadcast in real-time, using state-of-the-art technology.

Leonard's CAM WORLD - "See" the world you live in! Weather Cams, travel Cams, cams just for fun. CAM WORLD is a nicely organized collection of over 800 links to outdoor cams and visitor's information resources in the United States, Canada, Europe and Several Other Countries Worldwide.
MayaQuest - Each spring a team of explorers and archaeologists attempt to unlock one of the most perplexing mysteries, the collapse of the ancient Maya civilization. But this team doesn't work alone: over 1 million kids, teachers and others from around the globe help to lead the expedition by way of the Internet.
National Geographic Online - Chat with photographers, writers, and artists, and exchange ideas with the leading scientific minds of our time. Discover travel areas, then traverse the terrains of the latest in digital mapping from National Geographic's Cartographic Division.

The Smithsonian Institution - This is their home page, with links to many of their art and science museums, as well as to other related work.

Science Museums
American Museum of Natural History - This museum is known for its great dinosaur and fossil collection, but its real and online exhibitions include lots more, too. In New York City.
The E-quarium - The Monterey Aquarium goes on-line! Lots of information for students and teachers here.
The Exploratorium - A huge hands-on science museum located in San Francisco, California.
The Field Museum of Natural History - An educational institution concerned with the diversity and relationships in nature and among cultures. Exhibits include dinosaurs and Javanese masks. Located in Chicago, Illinois.
The Franklin Institute Science Museum - This museum's web pages are always worth looking at. They change regularly, so plan to return to them frequently. Current online exhibits include Your Summer Vacation on Mars and The Ultimate Arcade: Videotopia. The site also includes an excellent newsletter, truly wonderful educational hotlists, and a section by their resident science student, Amy.
Museum of Paleontology - Exhibits may be viewed from three points of view: phylogeny, or the "family tree" of life; geological time, or the temporal existence of groups of organisms; or history of evolutionary thought, which explores evolutionary thought by introducing topics and scientists. New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science - In addition to their online exhibits, they have a lengthy list of other museums on the web.
Paleontological Research Institution - This museum has an enormous fossil collection. Their online exhibits take you on a tour of the fossils, and also include other earth science resources. In Ithaca, NY.
Science Learning Network Resources - This excellent collection is a project of several museums working together. Check out water, hurricanes, and wind, dissect a cow's eye, look at objects as seen under an electron microscope, and more.

Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco - This museum is committed to making its entire collection available online. With 65,000 works of art, their Imagebase is currently the largest searchable art image database in the world.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art - The Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of the largest and finest art museums in the world. Its collections span more than 5,000 years of world culture, from prehistory to the present. In New York City.
