Computing Resources for CTC Users

This document details resources available for researchers at the CTC. The categories of machines are those you can log into, those available through the batch system, and database machines. Some machines are available to all CTC researchers, while others have restricted access.

Login Machines:
(user can login and do the following)
  • Compile programs
  • Create and edit files
  • Establish input data sets
  • Submit and monitor jobs
  • Check resulting data from batch runs
Batch Machines:
  • Provide exclusive access for batch jobs started by the Velocity Scheduler (vsched)
  • Provide exclusive access for interactive jobs reserved through vsched
Restrictions:
  • Each set of nodes has restrictions on its use; see the Computing Usage Policy for details on using these resources
Notes:
  • All machine names are in the tc.cornell.edu domain (i.e. vii0065 = vii0065.tc.cornell.edu)
  • **Machines available via special access only
  • A cluster is a set of machines forming a specific computing resource
  • The terms "node" and "machine" are used interchangeably
